Inside Our Makeup Bags

When we’re all famous actors someone will be on the payroll to make us look amazing for every production. Or maybe one day I will actually watch a tutorial and learn how to properly (and evenly) wing my eyeliner.

Confession: I am super bad at doing my own winged eyeliner. Yes, I am 32 years old and do not understand how someone could possibly match up that crap. I also can’t put on false eyelashes, so BRAVO to all of you who can!

In the meantime, it is up to us to do our own stage makeup. If you’ve been around the stage for a minute you know that Ben Nye rules the roost. I, personally, am not a huge fan of the cakey, goopy stuff we had to slather on our faces in undergrad. Now, I know that there are those that will stand by Ben Nye until the bitter end and yes, a heavier, special makeup is needed in certain situations as an actor, blah blah blah.

On a community theatre level, we are kind of in a sweet spot where we can use either makeup that is specifically made for the stage, or we can use good quality street makeup. It’s 2020 and the beauty world is more advanced than ever and you can find great stage makeup options at Ulta, Sephora, and even Target.

Here is a peek into the Stage Mom’s stage-makeup bags! By the way, this is not a sponsored post, just sharing a few products we actually use and love. But I mean, if Too Faced wanna holla at your girls…

E.L.F is a fabulous budget brand that I am in love with. Their line of primers are a great base for any makeup routine. I personally am a fan of the Poreless version!

This stuff is seriously amazing. You can use it to cover up dark circles or as a highlighter. It’s a little on the pricier side, but trust me, it is so worth it. And a little goes a long way, one bottle will last me 4-6 months!

OR

I got a sample of this concealer in an Ipsy bag one time and I’ve never. looked. back. Thanks to genetics from my India-born grandmother and now having a 4-month-old, my under-eyes needed some attention; this concealer truly does say “bye bye” to my dark circles. Plus, it’s waterproof, for the Meisner moments…

This foundation is great and has totally held up for me under the stage lights. With 40 shades there are a lot of options!

OR

Don’t let the name fool you, the texture of Amazonian Clay is far from heavy. This stuff goes on like buttah with full-coverage to boot! And just like the Pro Filt’r foundation, Tarte also provides 40+ shades (with undertones).

I am a makeup novice, but this palette makes me feel like I can actually contour my face without looking like I smeared mud on my cheekbones and dusted glitter over it. And at 4.99 it’s a total steal!

Yeah, so I am a fan of Too faced cosmetics. Their Neutral Matte palette is perfect for a nice natural look onstage. The colors are really pigmented and last for a long time. Tip: I bought a small angled brush and use this palette as eyeliner too!

Better Than Sex Mascara
Too Faced Cosmetics

I promise this is my last Too Faced recommendation! The name of the product speaks for itself. It’s my first choice for mascara.

This stuff stayed on through all the stage kisses, y’all. You can find it at literally every store that sells makeup and its crazy cheap.

I use this stuff on and off the stage. It keeps my makeup in place for HOURS.

AND

Okay, Kayla had to sneak in at least one Two Faced recc. This spray is a coconut water-infused mist that can be used as a primer, a setting spray, and a mid-show refresher. Why “Hangover?” Well, it’s super hydrating and will last through the craziest of cast parties.
